Welcome to Cat Movie Classics!

"Cat Movie Classics" is a puzzle about a classic movie, published each day, if possible. Players accumulate points, and real honest to goodness prizes will be awarded at the end of each round. The winners for Round #1 have been announced here. The Winners for Round #2 will be announced as soon as I possibly can... However, all of you are aware that this past week and next are horrendous for me!!!

Guess the name of the movie from the picture provided. The picture will be a depiction of a scene from the movie, or from the original Movie Poster. However, instead of people-- cats, (and occasionally dogs), will be the "stars" of the scenes!

A Cat Movie Classic Puzzle will be posted every day at 10 pm, Eastern Standard Time. (That's 9 pm CST, 8 pm MST, and 7 pm PST) -- If I can get them together... And I will try!! From Oct 3-20, publications may be more sporadic, due to the fact that real life is intruding upon my Vine Time! My apologies to all!

Trivia points will be limited to 20 points per answer! An Example of Scoring:

Nate Housefly -- Sean Connery, (two points, one for the character name, one for the actor name)

Apocalypse Meow was released in 1968 by Columbia pictures, grossing $10 million in the US and $15 million internationally, (one point for release day, one for the studio, one for US gross, one for international gross for a total of 4 points)

Each round of play will consist of 20 movies. To get points, you must name the movie, and any other trivia! (In other words, you can't say, "What hunnahunna said"! You must write the names and trivia down!)

Points are awarded as follows:

  • First to correctly name the movie, 1 point;
  • Anyone that correctly names the movie, 1 point;
  • Anyone that correctly names the director, lead actor, lead actress, 1 point each;
  • Bonus points awarded for trivia about the movie, 1 point each -- up to 20 points per movie;
  • Occasionally a really original wrong, but logical, guess will still recieve a bonus point, instead of points for the correct answer!
  • And, due to popular demand, some horrendous, but hysterically funny, puns will be awarded bonus points!
  • The movie will open at 10 pm, and the end of play for that movie will be 10 pm the following day-- please no exceptions! Thanks!

Here is the next Cat Movie Classic:

GREAT JOB!!! Thanks so much for the break!

Good Luck! Don't forget that trivia about the correct movie earns extra points! Each point will be awarded for a written answer about the correct movie!

Thank all of you for participating!  Thanks to dear jj for the submission!

Answer to Cat Movie Classics #51:  Field of Dreams

This might be just a stretch but I'm going to guess "Plan 9 from Outer Space" .

The part of the President was originally cast with Warren Beatty, but then he dropped out, then Paul Newman was cast, then he dropped out over concerns of violence. Even Michael Keaton was considered for the role that finally went to Jack Nicholson.

Tim Burton has said many times that he was told repeatedly he could not kill off Jack Nicholson's character in a movie. This led to his decision to cast Nicholson in two roles, that of the President and Art Land, and then to kill him off in both of them. So much for the studio influence... LOL

Here is a good one, although it really isn't THE rebel yell! :-)

Thanks, dear friend, for helping jj get this to me. We were camping, and my email doesn't work there... I have trouble publishing articles sometimes, too! But, ahhhh, the peace...

Much love to you, dearest sister of my heart. I love you VERY much!

We're all hoping that it works out with a minimum of fuss! Her dog was saved, and that helps more than anything. Her puppy is a Sheltie, and very old. So, he is her lifeline to sanity in so many ways.

Thos of us who have lived alone, and those of us who haven't, but love our babies, understand what a complete support their presence is. They love us, no matter what. Somehow, having to get up and do, for them, gives us the strength to do the things we need to do. She wants to get into some kind of camper so her baby will have a peaceful home. That means everything. So much of our personal morale is tied up in their sweet furriness...

I will pass on your good wishes!

Mars Attacks! (1996). Directed by Tim Burton. Starring Jack Nicholson, Pierce Brosnan and Sarah Jessica Parker.

===

The Martian Girl dress had no zipper or buttons (to make it as smooth as possible), so Lisa Marie had to be sewn into it every day.

The appearance of the aliens was inspired in an old trading card collection that Tim Burton had collected.

Johnny Depp turned down the role of reporter Jason Stone.

The writers weren't sure what the Martians should sound like so the script read "ack, ack, ack, ack" for all of their lines of dialogue. This became the actual words spoken by the Martians in the film.

When people had their flesh vaporized from their bones, the remaining skeletons were either red or green. Tim Burton explained this had been done because the movie had been scheduled for a Christmas release. Also, the red and green skeletons were first seen in Beetle Juice. When Barbara and Adam were in Juno's office you can see them with other ghouls looking at the screen.

Tim Burton had wanted the Martians brought to life via stop-motion animation, but finally went with CGI. The animators told Burton they could animate the Martians without motion blur to make them look more "stop-motiony," but Burton decided against that

Out of the 22 people listed in the main credits, only 6 survive the film.

ack ack ack ACK ACK!!

Mars Attacks, released in 1996 by Warner Brothers. Directed by (the weirdly wonderful) Tim Burton. Starring a SNOTLOAD of famous people: Jack Nicholson (in two roles), Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J Fox, Tom Jones, Jim Brown, Lukas Haas, Natalie Portman, Pam Grier, Jack Black, Paul Winfield, and Christina Applegate.

(you thought I was kidding when I said snotload!!)

Trivia: The writers weren't sure what the Martians should sound like so the script read "ack, ack, ack, ack" for all of their lines of dialogue. This became the actual words spoken by the Martians in the film.

Trivia #2: The scene where characters are wandering through a collection of old neon signs was filmed at the "Neon Boneyard", located on property maintained by the Neon Museum, a non-profit organization in Las Vegas. Many of the signs in the collection were donated by the Young Electric Sign Company (which constructed many of the casino signs and were originally salvaged for parts), and are slated for restoration and incorporation into outdoor exhibits. The "Boneyard" has been used in a number of film and TV projects, and is open for tours by appointment only.

Trivia #3: A real-life demolition in Las Vegas was filmed by Tim Burton, and incorporated into the movie. The casino was The Landmark, once owned by Howard Hughes. The location is now an expansion of the parking lot for the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Trivia #4: When people had their flesh vaporized from their bones, the remaining skeletons were either red or green. Tim Burton explained this had been done because the movie had been scheduled for a Christmas release. Also, the red and green skeletons were first seen in Beetle Juice. When Barbara and Adam were in Juno's office you can see them with other ghouls looking at the screen.

Trivia #5: In the scene where Martin Short is seducing a woman (actually an alien, played by Lisa Marie), he brings her into a secret room used by John Kennedy with a fish tank. The fish tank contains almost the entire cast of Finding Nemo including Nemo himself, Gill, Dory and Bubbles (no sharks, shrimps, whales and pelicans though.) The coincidence occurred probably because these species of fish are the most popular and colorful types of salt-water aquarium fishes.

Trivia #6: Jonathan Gems didn't realize that the Mars Attacks bubble gum cards had a story on the back until he'd written the script using his own original story.

Those cats still kind of creep me out. For some reason there is just something about a bald cat that seems so wrong. When I was a kid me and my friends got a hold of my Step-sisters's cat Trouble and gave him a hair cut (I think it was kind of a flat top). Trouble didn't mind once he was being left alone but boy was he funny looking with that hair cut.

I seriously under estimated how angry she was going to be.
