Louisville is pretty centrally located for the eastern side, but not out your way... :-)

It doesn't cost that much to fly here... IF you book early! :-)

Dowser, if I'm able to come, I absolutely demand you completely adjust all of the activities to reflect a celebration of my birthday, which is just a couple days after the meet. ;)

I'm going to do my best. I can't commit quite yet, but hopefully by April 1st!

You've done an extraordinary job putting this together. We may need to make you the official VineMeet planner!

Viki, we will certainly make some kind of 'adjustment'... :-) Cake and icecream? candles?

I sure hope that you can come, dear Viki. I really want to meet you in person!

Nope, that is a job I really don't want! I've had a lot of fun with it, and I've learned a lot-- but I've spent hours and hours and hours... Next one should be easier, I guess! ;-)

Let's see, I've learned how to set up a website, make videos out of powerpoint presentations, set up PayPal to collect payments, and on and on. Yep, knowing those things up front would have definitiely helped!

That museum is fabulous! an hour or an hour and a half isn't enough time to do it justices, whereas that amount of time is about perfect for the slugger museum. I didn't put it in on Sunday, because there isn't that much time to do the museum and make the Belle on time! :-)

I hope this is ok! :-)

Woah, this is the most organized Vinemeet plan of all time! Usually it's a few buckets of beer and some pizza.

Good work, Dowser. I will try to make it. Right now my plate is kind of full for June, but I'd LOVE to attend my first Vinemeet as a civilian. Now I can actually get drunk and misbehave. Oh wait...

Calvin, I will personally buy you some J. W. Dant. 120 proof. Guaranteed to knock your socks off, in a perfectly gentlemanly manner.... Good stuff! Fine sippin' bourbon! But, the catch-- you've gotta be here to get it...

                          Tempt tempt tempt...

I am reminded of a very funny, very old poem, by Harry Graham, the inventor of the Graham Cracker and member of the Cold Stream Guards:

On Lady Poltagrue, a Public Peril

The Devil, having nothing else to do, went off to tempt my Lady Poltagrue.

My lady, prompted by an private whim, to his extremem annoyance-- tempted him!

One of my favorites... Sorry, I'm off topic!

I haven't had J.W. Dant yet. I've been liking Jefferson's Reserve and Black Maple Hill lately, as far as bourbon is concerned.

Flights from Seattle to Louisville really suck from what I can tell. Viki and I are considering driving there from Chitown.

Try to Indianapolis or Nashville-- both are about 2 hours away, and easier to get to Louisville. Chicago is a pretty big drive through boring territory... Or you might try Cincinatti, about 1.5 hours, or strangely enough, Lexington has some good flights. OR, for about the same amount of time driving, St. Louis is good. :-) Good luck!

If you need us to come and get you on Thursday from Indianapolis or Nashville, I'll come and get you. And take you back on Monday... No problem, ok? :-)

Calvin! Yes and yes to both! There's always a bit of Jefferson's Reserve in my pantry, usually for those "special occasions". Like Mondays. Tuesdays are good too......rofl!

I can attest to Dowser's alternate suggestions as well. All are better than Louisville. I'd lean towards Cincy or Nashville myself. Both are very easy drives from both to Louisville. Indy is too.

                                Hope to see y'all there!

Dowser! Hey there! Hope Mom is doing ok! And the weekend wasn't too taxing! *grin*!

Terrific! I have the perfect spot I'm going to plant mine in! The bed for them will be all ready by vinemeet time too! Plenty of sun, good drainage, and right in view from my patio!

Rather than get one kind of seed for everyone, I got a little packet of mixed seeds. That way, something should grow, no matter where people are! :-)

I'm off to the seminar! Wish me luck! :-)

YES, thank heavens! I did not turn down the fiery oratory and had them on the edge of their seats. :-)

Pictures of people's faucets blowing up tend to do that...

I'm so glad it is over. Tomorrow, I run a booth at UofL, teaching them about using native plants to help the environment. :-) I'm working on a movie about wildflowers-- the company has loaned me a nice DVD player that will play in the background!

Tomorrow here high of 55o, thank heavens. It was cold out there today! Aurthor is acting up something fierce this evening! Ugh.

Talking about native plants is fun, for sure, but we were outside, and no one wanted to know about native plants, they wanted to know about fluoride, hormones, and chromium 6 in our water. The table next to us was running a taste test-- funny how we won against the best bottled brands, but so many kids won't drink plain tap water, etc. They were going to make me park 2 blocks away, and walk, carrying my booth bits. I have lots of those! I parked in the handicapped spot and told them, I'll move when the police tell me to do so. (I use my handicapped sticker and have one for a good reason!) As far as I am concerned, I really don't want to go back.

I worked very hard today, dear friend, and it shouldn't have been me there, we needed a whole slew of laboratory experts. I made friends with a lot of the people there-- most of them-- but you know? I'm getting too old for this.

Oh, and no coffee. As a special treat, they gave all of 'the booth people' unsweetened yogurt and sour apples. I talked with one young man that I really liked and would enjoy working with in the future, and the people in charge were nice, but, they were awfully loosey-goosey. Perhaps, I'm too engineer-like in my thoughts, but I need to know what I'm supposed to do when. When I got there, I learned that I was to be the Keynote Speaker. HUH????

For Pete's SAKE! Nope, I don't want to go back. I may have to, but I don't want to...

I'll bet you pulled it off beautifully! But, I agree that they should have given you at least a minute's notice... isn't it about time you got a nice cushy desk job??? Geez... I get all worn out just thinking about what you had to do!

Sorry I've been MIA, but I've had some unpleasant days... over a week ago I got an abscessed tooth... had to find a doc to prescribe an antibiotic, and as it was on a Saturday, I couldn't reach my own doc or a dentist. So, off to an urgent-care facility, got the antibiotic, had to discontinue the blood thinner because, for all I knew, I'd be getting sliced and diced along with a root-canal. Monday last week I got the root canal, was told I'd need a crown. Meanwhile, I was on Vicodin (I don't tolerate narcotics well, but the pain was outrageous). I had an appointment on the 25th with my cardiologist, and I was expecting to get yelled at, because I discontinued the blood thinners without consulting him (but I was going to tell him I wanted to quit them, anyway). So... he didn't yell at me, but understood why I wanted to stop the very, very expensive blood thinner (Pradaxa, a new drug, $250/mo. at Target, not covered by insurance). Long story short, he told me to go ahead and take aspirin, stop the Pradaxa, stop the Lasix, reduce the Metoprolol... and I have to get a 24-hour monitor at the end of April to see if anything bad is happening. So far, so good... vitals are all where they should be. My daily routine just got a whole lot less complicated because I'm taking a whole lot fewer drugs. Just need to get the crown, hope I don't die from sticker-shock for that...

Anyway, I'm really psyched about the Vinemeet... especially if I no longer have to take a gazillion drugs...

                                            Wheeeee!

I'm so sorry about your tooth! I had a root canal and crown last fall, and it wasn't that bad at all! Expensive as crud, but not bad!

GREAT about the aspirin! I take that Ecotrin, which is a coated aspirin and easier on your stomach. It sounds great that they are lowering the amount of medication you take! I'm so very glad to hear that you are doing so well!

VineMeet-- oh bitey, I can't wait to meet you in real life! To really hug you in person! I love you!

Yes, a little notice would have been wonderful-- I was IRKED. This was the most poorly planned 'do' I've ever participated in. I do NOT want to go back, at all. I was pretty upset with all that responsibility and no prep time, and was ready to thwock someone. Hard as I tried, they were bored with me, so I didn't speak long. Sigh...

I love you, dearest bitey, and I'm so glad your health is getting better! Much love to you, and I eagerly anticipate a real hug! :-)

I take Ecotrin, too! There are some coated aspirins that stink to high heaven, but the Ecotrin has no odor at all, so I'll stick with that.

Funny about that root canal... I've had about a gazillion of them, and never, ever had pain afterward. Not so, this time! It hurt as bad as before I got the root canal, so the dentist called in a prescription for Vicodin. He assured me that it was all okay, that the root canal was perfect. Sure enough, about two days later the pain was gone. Still no picnic, though. I pretty much lost all of last week, because I cannot function on narcotics. They nauseate me.

Real-life hugs sound good... Let's pray that there isn't any snow for the vine meet... Winter is determined to hang on forever, it seems!

Dowser! Sounds like your booth-talk thing was organized by Air-head International! I did the booth life for a while myself, it was fun on one hand, but I was a most happy camper when I knew I did my last show too! Funny how it always seems the people with the most and heaviest stuff always get the booth furthest from any door, at the end of the longest aisle, there is never an electrical outlet within a hundred yards of your booth, the people on one side of you are always convinced their storage area is under your tables, and the folks on the other side insist on microwaving their day old fish sandwiches and road kill for brunch every morning! About then is when you begin to ponder just how definitive the relative merits are of the concept of justifiable homicide! ROFL!

Well, I'm all booked and registered. I'll check in on the 24th and check out on the 27th; I registered for almost all of the Derby stuff (museum, walking tour, Skye thingy...). Also the lunch cruise. All that's left is for the time to pass until the departure date arrives! This is gonna be such fun, and Dowsey, you have worked miracles! The registration form gave me some problems, but apparently resolved itself 'cause I got an email confirming my successful registration. PayPal worked, too!

It will be so much fun if we have a group and can not only get the discount, but the special deals and tour spots they offer... Being a group, you get special gifts, and special favors, and can see special things they don't normally show! Yeeeehaaaaa!

I'm working on our gift bags, and still working on centerpieces, and door prizes, etc. I've bought up all the roses at two shops, and am planning on another trip... ;-) That's me, the evil silk flower buyer... :-)

Also, I'm working on the Kid's Kamping Korner-- where the kids can play with a minimum of supervision and maximum fun! I think our hats will be fun, and I really thing the day at Millionaire's Row will be loads of fun! (And I don't bet on horses-- it is usually a kiss of death for me bet!)

I'm so glad you're coming, dear bitey. We'll get on that Belle and be the belles! :-)

Oh my-- I once looked into what it would cost to make a beautiful velvet hooped skirt for the Perryville Re-inactment. Yeah, I thought what fun! He could go shoot guns and I could be pretty!

Well, it was going to cost something like $200 for the fabric alone-- velvet was $12.95/yard back then! And lace? ho ho ho-- I was going to have special order the lace, too, because to edge the skirt with lace required more yards than what is on a brand new bolt. One bolt would have covered the dress, but the lace yardage... Anyway, I decided that if I wore all that, I'd be stuck wherever it was they'd put me, unable to move with all the pounds of fabric weighing me down.

I can't imagine how they could afford all those dresses back then-- or who sewed them. It would be a life's work just the tat enough lace! Then, I think of my great-great grandmother Sophronia, who had 3 daughters, and they all had pretty dresses with hoops, and 'came out' in style. After the war, and they had a dressmaker to help a little... But, they pretty much make all their own clothes, and had no sewing machine-- again, I am amazed at her accomplishments!

                                                                Uh uh uh!

Nostalgia and tradition are terrific, by all means, but give me sewing machines, washers and dryers, indoor plumbing, and electric lighting any day! ROFL!

I'm convinced the only reason we're all here today is because the folks back then were a lot tougher in the mettle than most of us are today! They had to be!

Folks can pine fo the good old days all they want, but there's a definite "limit" in my book! Only so much! Esoterically, the way folks looked after each other, civility, all that, yes, a better time!

Had this not been the case I would register for everything I could, those of you lucky enough to be able to attend are in for one hell of a good time. Think of me while your there that's as close as I'll get this year.
